Gladys Madewell

Gladys Madewell, age 98, of Miami Township, passed away Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at Laurelwood Senior Living. She was born November 20, 1919 in Livingston, Tennessee daughter of the late Tilden and Serena Gore.

In addition to her parents Gladys, was preceded in death by her husband, Walter R. Madewell (1972) and 5 siblings. Gladys is survived by her children Jo (Denis) Schulte, Gary (Joyce) Madewell and Paula (Albert) Morrie; grandchildren, Dawnette (Dan) Hall, April Shiery, Van (Shelly) Laycox, Katie Schulte, Megan Schulte, Steven (Rhonda) Morrie, Melanie (Jeff) Kramer, Scott (Misty) Madewell and Kristin (Dusty) Fields; great grandchildren, Chad, Andrew, Bodhi, Cole, Saige, Katie, Hannah, Jacob, Bayley, Jackson, Savannah, Lilliana and Cooper and an amazing caregiver, Patty.

Gladys was a 1939 graduate of Livingston Academy in TN. She worked as a bookkeeper for AAA Automotive Club almost 10 years before retiring in 1981. Additionally she had the opportunity to serve in the same capacity at the Pentagon for the Department of the Marine Corps during WWII. Gladys proudly served as a volunteer for Kettering Hospital for 22 years, receiving multiple recognitions for her dedication. She was also a member of the Belmont Chapter of the Eastern Star. Gladys was also an active member of the Miami Shores Baptist Church, Moraine for 55 years. She was a devoted Sunday School teacher and volunteered for numerous other church programs. Her Lord was her passion and will always be remembered for her faith.
Family will receive guests from 5:00 – 6:00 pm Tuesday, May 8, 2018 at Newcomer Funeral Home, Kettering. A service will immediately follow at 6:00 pm also at the funeral home and officiated by Pastors Doug Surber and Phil Norris. Good Hope Cemetery, Livingston, TN will serve as Gladys's final resting place with graveside services beginning 12:30 pm Wednesday, May 9, 2018.
