Gladston Grady Newbourn II, "Grady" or "Dozy," Made his entrance into the world June 9, 1945 and continued to make his mark on this earth until he went home to be with The Lord on April 1, 2015. He is survived by his wife, Ruby Newbourn, and his children: Annie Newbourn, Sherry Hardin, Amber Amerson (Craig), and Gladston Grady Newbourn III "Trey" (Tammi). He is also survived by his grandchildren: Cory Sager, Madison Croom, Craig (CJ) Amerson, Olivia Newbourn, Carolyn Hardin and Ava Newbourn.
Grady was born in Beckley, WV, but was a long time resident of Dayton, OH. He excelled in sports while attending Stebbins High School and after graduating in 1963, enjoyed a successful post-high school AAU wrestling career. He was employed by Inland Mfg. for 10 years, then in the 1970's began rehabbing residential real estate. Later in his life he enjoyed helping friends and family fix up their houses and also worked as a maintenance supervisor for Unity Real Estate. During his career, there was never a house that he could not find some ingenious way to improve, or an old plumbing or electrical issue that he could not figure out. He often amazed us with his ability to quickly learn new skills by simply reading a book and trying out the task with his own hands.
Grady was a wise and strong man; a figurehead, a caretaker, a friend, a jokester, a mentor, a risk taker, the voice of reason, and your biggest fan, all wrapped up into one person. He never met a stranger, and no one ever walked away from him not feeling a little charmed by his laugh, intrigued by his personality, or at a minimum, wanting to hear just one more of his stories.
Grady touched countless people's lives in numerous capacities: friend, loving mate, father, and grandfather. He will be dearly missed by Theresa Crabtree and her sons David and Rocky Crabtree; Cheryl Jenkins and her children Charlie, Ronnie, Michelle, Jennifer, Cheryl, Grady and their extended families.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 7, 2015 from 5:00 pm until 7:30 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home- North, 4104 Needmore Rd.
