Gertrude Bradley, age 100, of Dayton, Ohio passed away on September 17, 2023. Gertrude was born in Homer, Louisiana on September 11, 1923, to the late Drew Smith and Hattie Wafer Smith.
Gertrude gave her life to Christ at an early age and attended Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church for over 60 years. She made sure that her children were heavily involved in church from an early age.
Gertrude was a homemaker. She also worked until the age of 82. She loved to plant gardens and make her yard the best on the block. She also enjoyed cooking southern meals, baking, canning, talking on the phone and/or portal, watching her Soaps and spending time with family. Her love for her family shined through and through. She was always preparing large holiday meals, that was her absolute favorite pastime. Gertrude found such joy in cooking for others and having fellowship. Gertrude loved her family immensely and spoiled her grandchildren. There was nothing she would not do for her family.
She is proceeded in death by her husband Therman Bradley Sr., they were married for 56 years, and Therman Bradley Sr. served his country and was a World War II veteran. Also proceeded in death are her parents, Drew, and Hattie Smith. Siblings, J.T. Smith Sr., Margaret Thompson, John S. Smith, Lola B. White, Drew Smith, Jr., Esther Matthews, and Clarine Chalk. Also proceeded in death by her grandson, Damon Bradley Sr.
She leaves to cherish her sweet memory, Three sons, Therman Bradley Jr, and wife Linda. Robert Bradley and wife Joyce, and Ralph Bradley. She also leaves two daughters, Cynthia Ann Bradley, and Emma Jean Bradley. Grandchildren; Dion and wife Anetria, Derek and wife Donna, Mallory Mitchell, Melanie Mitchell, Natalie Allen, Darien and wife Karly, Robert II, Damon II, Daante, DaKayah, Desmond, Dilan, Deven, Trey, Demerie, Ty Mitchell, Alex Mitchell, Cecil Allen, Soleil Allen, Jalen, Miles and Lenyxx. Also, a special niece, Janice Hunter, Special nephew, Lavon Chalk, Special great niece, Destiny Chalk. With a host of other relatives and friends.
Gertrude will be laid to rest alongside her husband at Dayton National Cemetery on Tuesday, September 26, 2023 at 2:00pm.
