Geraldine (Geri) Barber Kardeen, 86, a long-time resident of Liberty Nursing Home in Xenia, Ohio, died on Tuesday, October 20, 2009 at Greene Memorial Hospital in Xenia. She was born in Randolph, NY, March 5, 1923, daughter and only child of Russell Barber and Gladys Emory. She married Virgil Kardeen on August 30, 1941 in Randolph, NY. She worked as a nurse's aide for several years but was primarily a homemaker. She lived and raised her children in Sherman, NY for 35 years and then relocated to Xenia, OH and has lived there 23 years. A very active church member, she taught Sunday school and was active in women's groups. She is predeceased by her husband Virgil Kardeen in 1985, an infant daughter in 1968 and her son, Timothy Kardeen in 2007. She is survived by her daughter, Kathleen Vannorsdall (Raymond) of Rio Rancho, NM and son, William Kardeen (Patricia) of Albuquerque, NM, daughter-in-law, Bonnie Kardeen of Xenia, OH, eleven grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren. The funeral service will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home, 3380 Dayton-Xenia Rd., Beavercreek, OH 45432 on Friday, October 23, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., one hour preceding the funeral service. Pastor Michael Thomas from Philadelphia Baptist Church in Xenia, OH will officiate. Internment will be in NY at a later date.
