Geraldine A. Carter

April 16, 1935 — February 8, 2023

Our beloved Geraldine A. Carter made her sweet transition from this earth to dwell with her heavenly father on Wednesday, February 8, 2023, at 5:30pm. She was born in Earle, Arkansas, to Lillie Waits Abrams and Herman Abrams on April 16, 1935.

In 1951 Geraldine married her childhood friend Malcolm "Little Mac" Simmons, Sr. Five years later, Geraldine and her family migrated to Chicago, IL where she worked in a meat processing plant. In 1972, she relocated to St Louis, MO. There she found her niche when she began working at the General Electric lighting plant, where she retired in 1995.

On January 19, 1963, she married her longtime friend, love and travel partner, Wilbert Carter, and their union of love was firmly woven together. Through this union, they shared the rearing of five children Rose, Margaret Malcolm, Faye and Renee. To her family, she was called "Momma, Grand-momma, Sister, Aunt and Friend," but those who were blessed to know her well called her Gerri.
Geraldine accepted Christ at very young age and later recommitted her life to Christ while attending the Wright Patterson AFB Chapel III, Dayton, OH. Her life was a living example of Ephesians 4:32 – "And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ." To those who knew Geraldine, she did anything she could to improve and make a difference in the lives of her family, friends and neighbors.

Geraldine was preceded in death by her husband Wilbert Carter; parents, Lillie and Herman Abrams; her sister Bobbie Johnson; her brother Leon Abrams; her daughter Faye Summage; two brothers-in-law, Pete Armster and Bill Sherely; sister-in-law Janet Abrams; and two sons-in-law Willie Fitzpatrick and James Jacobs.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her children Malcom Simmons, Jr. (Sheila) of Dayton, OH, Margaret Jacobs of Calumet City, IL, Rose Fitzpatrick and Renee Carter of Chicago, IL; her sisters: Dorothy Armster of Chicago, IL and Bessie Sherely of Boling Brook, IL; her brothers: Charles Abrams (Millie) of Los Angeles, CA and Herbert Abrams of Sun City, CA; her grandchildren: Latonya Brown, Angela Willis (Jimmy), and Demarco Dickerson (Bernice), Tiffany Wells, Erica Fitzpatrick, DeAndre Fitzpatrick, Yolanda Carter, Rosemary Thompson, Darnell Thompson, James Jacobs, Jr., Cassandra Carter, Lisa Maples, Elaine Maples, and Williams Maples; a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Her beloved Chapel III family, Dayton Card Club and Bunko group that supported Geraldine for more than 20 years she has lived in the Dayton, OH.

Geraldine will be remembered for the way she made us laugh, the stories that she shared and the generous spirit she possessed. She was truly a devoted mother, sister, grandmother, aunt and friend.
