Gerald Thomas Rowe was born October 25th 1928 in Chicago, IL. The second child of Naomi and Richard Rowe Sr. Gerald graduated from St. Phillips High School in Chicago. Upon graduation, Jerry enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served two years and was honorably discharged. Afterward he obtained his bachelor's degree from Roosevelt University in Chicago. Jerry worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 42 years. He held various positions including Assistant Postmaster in Evanston, IL. In his last position with the Post Office he served 15 years as Postmaster in Belleville, IL.
In Belleville he served as President of the Kiwanis Club and other civic organizations before relocating to Dayton, Ohio in 1993. During his leisure time he enjoyed golfing, reading, traveling, playing cards, water activities and a good meal
Affectionately known as Pops, Daddy, The Big G and The Flaming Arrow, Gerald was well liked by all who knew him.
Gerald married Dorothy L. Rhodes in Chicago in 1949. Together they had three children, Deborah, Pamela and Patrick.
Gerald left this life on October 25th, 2006 after battling Alzheimer's six years and several recent bouts of pneumonia.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Richard L Rowe Jr.
He is survived by his beloved wife, and best friend of 57 years, Dorothy; his children, Deborah Travis-McCargo (Los Angeles, CA); Pamela Grant (Dayton, OH) and Patrick Rowe (wife- Gayna) (Phoenix, AZ). Additionally he is survived by his grandchildren, Courtney Travis (wife-Jeannette) (Ft. Lauderdale, FL); Tara Grant (Dayton, OH); Clay McCargo III (Dayton, OH) and Patrick Sterling Rowe, Jr. (Denver, CO). Also, a great grandchild, Kailyn D'Aguiar (Kingsland, GA). And a "daughter" Gezanne Rowe-Baker (Houston, TX), sister-in-law Delores Rowe (Chicago, IL) and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
