Gerald R. Hyatt, age 64 of Huber Heights, died at Miami Valley Hospital on Sunday, October 9, 2011 after a courageous battle with lung cancer.
Jerry was a graduate of Stebbins High School, Class of 1965. He was proud to have served in the Army and was a Vietnam Veteran. He retired from Delco Products in Kettering.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents: Robert and Ruby (Ward) Hyatt. He leaves behind his wife, Sharon (Snyder) Hyatt; daughter, Christy; and son, Keith and his wife, Sara. He was very proud of his three grandsons: Noah, Nicholas and Jack Hyatt. He also leaves behind his sister-in-law, Connie Snyder, many cousins, other relatives and friends.
He coached for the Huber Heights Girls Softball Association for 30 years and was on the board for several years as a Senior Slow Pitch Supervisor. His last year of coaching was the summer of 2010. He did a lot of work putting teams together for the summer league. He would say, "We're here to play ball and have fun." He coached the senior girls, ages 13-19, and of course he liked to win. Jerry enjoyed Wayne High School football games, watched soccer games and then was ready for basketball. He was a big Tennessee University Football fan, Tennessee Women's Basketball and Fast Pitch Softball, and let's not forget, Cincinnati Reds Baseball. Jerry will be dearly missed by everyone. He enjoyed life to the fullest. He was a simple man with a kind smile and a big heart.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday October 12, 2011 from 5:00-8:30 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home & Crematory, 4104 Needmore Rd. A funeral service will take place the following day, Thursday October 13, 2011 at 1:00 pm at the funeral home. Burial to follow at Willow View Cemetery.
