Gerald Victor Kratzer "Jerry", age 81 of Centerville, passed away Thursday, November 16, 2023. He was born February 1, 1942 in Dayton, Ohio the son of the late Victor and Margaret Kratzer. After graduating from Fairmont High School Jerry was drafted into the army during the Vietnam War. He served his military time in Germany. Then he continued his 40 year career working at Dayton Daily News.
Because of his rare blood type, Jerry donated over 200 pints of blood, most often used for new born babies. He appreciated worshiping weekly with his church family at Shelter Church. Leading with the Celebrate Recovery team at the Vineyard was a significant part of his life for many years. Wood carving of animals, birds and a snowmen, brought him a lot of pride and enjoyment. Favorite vacation spots were the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and Montana where family live. His faith and family were the center of Jerry's life. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 54 years, Lynn Kratzer; Sister, Beverly (late Larry) Oney; Daughters, Sarah (Shane) Adams and Kelly (Jeffery) Fear; Son, Andrew Kratzer; Grandchildren, Ben Adams, Jordan Fear, Cassie Adams, Cole Fear and Kyle Fear and by many dear friends and family.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Thomas C. Kratzer.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Celebrate Recovery. A celebration of life will be held on Monday, November 27, 2023, at 6:00PM, at the Newcomer Funeral Home Centerville Chapel, 820 Miamisburg-Centerville Rd. Dayton, OH 45459.
