Georgia Juanita Powers Kelly, age 89 of Beavercreek, passed away Friday, December 24, 2021 at Hospice of Dayton. She was born October 29, 1932 in Hazel, Dickenson Co., VA, the daughter of the late Frances Woods Powers Ross and Carter Powers. She was 2nd eldest of 11 children.
Georgia was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, David K. Kelly, and daughter Nancy M. Kelly; 5 sisters, Goldie Stapleton, Naomi Newman, Wilma Hoskins, Mary Maynard and Edna May; 2 brothers, Richard and Jerry Powers; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Survived by daughter Pamela (Philip) Miller, son Michael (Kathryn) Kelly and step-daughter Rhonda (Rick) Rose-Joyce; 5 grandchildren, Christy (Shawn) Justus, Timothy Robinson, Ryan (Ashley) Kelly, Victoria Kelly, Joshua Kelly; 2 sisters, Brenda Nuckles and Shelby (Randy) Granger; 1 brother, Maynard Powers; 12 great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Georgia retired from General Motors, Delco Moraine Division, Dayton, OH after more than 30 years of service, plus she spent nearly 39 years caring for her youngest, disabled daughter, Nancy.
In her younger years, she loved gardening, then canning and freezing the harvest. She also sewed and crocheted baby clothes, blankets, and doll clothes. She loved spending time with her grand babies, and was always willing to baby sit any time. In her later years, she loved shopping at thrift stores and garage sales with her brother Richard. If they were out together, you always knew what they were up to. And she loved spending time with her sisters Brenda and Mary, going to watch live Bluegrass music.
A beloved mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, she loved most spending time with family. She was close to her mother and siblings and they would all get together as often as possible. Of course part of those get-together's included playing Bluegrass music. Laughing, playing music, singing, dancing and good home cooked food was what her large family loved best.
In her last year, as her dementia worsened and she was no longer able to walk, she was limited in her participation in family gatherings. But, she always had a smile and a twinkle in her eyes when family came to visit.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Georgia's memory to Hospice of Dayton. A special thank you to Hospice of Dayton for all you do.
