George Moore, age 96 of Dayton, OH passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 7, 2019 at Suites of Walnut Creek. He was born July 4, 1922 in Hamilton, Ohio to George and Clara (Boggs) Moore. George married the love of his life Dorothy Stephens on September 26, 1942 and she preceded him in death.
George proudly served his country in the Army Air Corps during World War II, and was stationed primarily in the South Pacific. He retired from BP, formerly SOHIO, where he managed service stations for years and during his last years, managed their car washes. George enjoyed remodeling their home and taking care of their lawn. He treasured the weekends at St. Mary's Lake with Dorothy and his family and friends. George was a kind and gentle man who loved his family, especially his granddaughter Amanda, and will be greatly missed by all.
George is survived by his son, George (Stephanie) Moore; one grandchild, Amanda (Billy) Weidener; two great grandchildren, Liam and Nathan Weidener; and several nieces and nephews; and other family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 76 years, Dorothy; and three sisters, Gladys (Roy) Schermbeck, Arlene (Bob) Barnhart and Charlotte Sturm.
The family would like to thank the staff and management at the Suites at Walnut Creek for their care and compassion. Another thanks would like to be extended to the staff of Hospice of Dayton (Ohio's Hospice) for their care and compassion as well.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2019 from 2:00 to 3:00 PM at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals and Receptions, 3380 Dayton Xenia Road, Beavercreek, OH 45432. Funeral services will follow the visitation at 3:00 PM at the funeral home. There will be no burial following the service, this will occur at a later date.
