MATT, George J. 90 of Kettering passed away peacefully at home on December 23,2019. He was born in Dayton, OH on April 19, 1929, the son of George and Johanna (Fischer) Matt.
Upon completing high school, he worked as a carpenter with his father so he could take evening classes to pursue a degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Dayton. His first job after graduating was with NCR and he ultimately retired from R.L. Drake. He was a lifelong UD Flyer basketball fan, enjoyed fishing, cornhole, and being present for his children.
He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Georgie.
He was a faithful husband of 58 years to Kathleen (Weherley) Matt, devoted brother to Joe (Rosalie) Matt, beloved father of Geri (Ken) Harrington, Jacki (Dave) Johnson, Chris (Tammy) Matt, Kari (David) Cox, and Doug (Megan) Matt, dear grandfather of Kaysie and Carson Harrington, Dylan (Alisha) and Kyle (Tatiana) Matt, Alex, Taylor, Kate and Nate Matt, Mitchell and Jack Johnson, Grayson and Grant Cox and great-grandfather to Sophia Matt.
The family will greet guests Monday, December 30, 2019 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 3380 Dayton-Xenia Rd, Beavercreek, OH 45432, from 4:00 PM until a Celebration of Life service at 6:00 PM. A reception will follow at the Dayton Vineyard Church, 4051 Indian Ripple Rd,
Beavercreek, OH 45440.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Ave, Dayton, OH 45420.
