George D. Mullen, born December 6, 1926 and died January 8, 2016. Preceded in death by the love of his life for 69 years, Jeanne MacLardie Mullen. He is survived by his children, Barbara (Ron) Baker, Jane (Stanley) Price, Patricia (Rick) Fisher, Michael (Nannette) Mullen and Brian (Karen) Mullen. He leaves behind 18 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and beloved dog Hank.
He was a proud graduate of Fairmont High School and attended Miami University before enlisting in the US Army. He later returned to graduate and loved his Redskins.
He was a long-time member of the Beavercreek Mt. Zion and Lewisburg First United Church of Christ.
Retired from Frigidaire/GM Truck and Bus Group after 25 years where he served as Recreation Director and Personnel Administrator. He served as manager of the Frigidaire Employees' Recreation Park.
He and his wife Jeannie moved to North Port Florida in 1985, where he served 8 years on the Parks and Recreation Board, six as chairman. In 1993, he was elected City Commissioner and served 7 years. He championed the building of the Community Activity Center which was later named in his honor. He also served as chair for the Florida League of Cities Municipal Trust Fund for 2 years.
He is a Korean War Veteran, wounded in the line of duty. He served as a 2nd Lieutenant in the 15th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division during the winter campaign of 1952. He had a combined total of 17 ½ years active duty and Ohio National Guard Service. He rose through the ranks from PFC to Captain before resigning.
In his retirement he joined Flotilla 92 of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary in North Port where he served twice as Commander and twice as Vice-Commander. He served for 25 years.
He was a Rotary member since 1993 and is a Paul Harris Fellow.
He loved his family, the outdoors, camping, hunting and motorcycle riding.
