George Ralph Boone

April 16, 1929 — June 15, 2018

Boone, George Ralph, age 89, born April 16, 1929 in Leona Mines, Virginia. He is preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Laura Boone; sisters, Louise Wade, Doris Mullins; brother, James Harry Boone; great grandson, Alex Rhoads. George is survived by his wife, Thelma (Hill); sister, Shirley Parsons of Tampa; children, Barbara (Scott) Montgomery, Cheryl Blake and Jim (Kathy) Boone; grandchildren, Michele (Brian) Rowe, Stacy (Chris) Gilson, Rory (Autumn) Blake, Mitch (Caitie) DeShane, Adam (Jordan) Blake, Laura (Taylor) Spivey, Russell (Brionna) Boone; and six great-grandchildren.

After attending high school in St. Charles, Virginia, and his freshman year at Lincoln Memorial University, he joined the United States Air Force in 1949. He served his country in the Korean War where he received the Bronze Star for his work in military intelligence. He returned to college after the war, earning a B.S. in Electronic Engineering at the University of Dayton, while working full time at NCR, and later in the R&D department of University of Dayton. After graduation, he worked at a startup company, Technology Incorporated, then moved on to Conrac Inc. before finally realizing his dream of starting and leading his own company, Phase 1 Instruments. He is a patent holder for several inventions, including thermocline seeking fishing lures, and the more economically lucritive utilization of electronic thermistors to build innovative leak detection systems. George and Thelma sold the company to travel the world before settling down to spend time with their extended family. After his retirement, George was a passionate enthusiast who studied and conducted remote viewing research. He also ensured that his extended family remained close by graciously hosting annual NC beach trips for over 30 years.

A viewing will be held Tuesday, June 19th from 5:00 to 7:00 pm with a memorial service following at Newcomer Funeral Home, South Chapel, 3940 Kettering Blvd. Kettering. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Hospice of Dayton or Alzheimer's Association
