Gene E. Smith
February 17, 1933 — August 23, 2017
Gene E. Smith "Smitty", age 84, went to heaven to join his family August 23, 2017. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Gayle; parents, Wilbur and Ruth (Gage) Smith; brother, Donald; sister-in-law, Jane; and sister, Beverly Scheckelhoff.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Dona Smith; three children, Rebecca (Donald) Bradam, Debra (Jeffrey) Miller, Gregory (Melissa) Smith; grandchildren, Nathan and Alyssa Miller, Megan and Samantha Miller, Joshua and Caitlin Smith, Sarah Smith and fiancé Aaron Carnes; step great grandchildren, Kristen, Damien, Hailey; step great great grandchild, Olivia; and brother-in-law, Allen McClelland.
Gene was alumni of the University of Dayton class of 1956 and Stivers High School class of 1951. He was the proud owner of Dayton Model Railways (aka Smitty's Hobby Shop) and a member of NMRA for many years.
He was well known throughout the country for his artwork on model trains. He will be sorely missed by his family and many friends.
A visitation will be held from 5-7pm on Sunday, August 27, 2017 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 3380 Dayton Xenia Road in Beavercreek. Funeral services will follow on Monday at 2pm.
Burial will be at Woodland Cemetery in Dayton.
