Gene P. Lunsford

Gene P. Lunsford, age 77 of New Lebanon, passed away on Saturday, March 20, 2021 at his residence. He was born on March 15, 1944 in Dayton, Ohio to the late Varda and Esther Phillips Lunsford. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his grandson, Elijah Lunsford.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Dorothy "Susie" Lunsford; four children, Phillip (Belenda) Lunsford, Kimberly (Don) Childress, Neat Lunsford, and Aimee Lunsford (Chuck); seven grandchildren, Natalie, Sarah (Tony), Beth (Evan), Jess (Derek), Amber (Justin), Taylor, and Brittani; sister, Bonnie (Harold) Arnold. He is also survived by ten great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, in-laws, out-laws, family and friends.
Gene never met a stranger and always extended his generosity and home to others. He had a great work ethic and in his younger years, had many different jobs. Later in life, he owned a variety of trucking businesses. Gene loved driving across HIS country and seeing the beautiful sights. He admired it all but his heart belonged to middle America, where most of the people he loved lived. An unplanned stop for a visit made the trip even better. One of his favorite memories was visiting Crazy Horse Memorial & Mount Rushmore in South Dakota. He recommended them to everyone. He was interested in ALL things concerning trucks and cars. A trip to the Indianapolis 500 as a youngster turned him into a lifelong fan of racing anything with a motor, especially NASCAR. Watching Hopalong Cassidy in the 50's influenced his fondness for Westerns. Any mention of a get-together got his attention and a quick nod. Gene loved spending time with his family and friends. His Greatest joy was being a Dad and a Grandpa. We all loved his hugs and smiles and we miss them.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 7:00 PM on Tuesday, March 30, 2021. Funeral Service will be held the following day at 10:00 am Wednesday, March 31, 2021. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Crazy Horse Memorial Foundation at www.crazyhorsememorial.org
