Gary Kent Carroll (Usaf Colonel Retd.)

Gary Kent Carroll (USAF Col. Retd), age 85 of Beavercreek, OH, went to be with the Lord after a long battle with cancer, on Thursday, November 18, 2021 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born January 7, 1936 in Greenville, Illinois to Robert C. and Beatrice A. (Turley) Carroll. Gary married Carolyn Shadowens Brooks on September 23, 2005 in Beavercreek, OH.

Gary retired in 1987 as an Air Force Colonel. In his 30 year career he served as a fighter pilot during the Korean and Vietnam wars, an Instructor Pilot, Operations Officer and Squadron Commander. Among the awards he received in his career, he was the recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross. Following his retirement from the Air Force, he was a financial planner for USPA/IRA for 10 years. He contributed to a recently released book on UFO's entitled "Swamp Gas My A##". Gary enjoyed restoring and showing his 1964 1/2 Ford Mustang and 1970 XKE Jaguar. He was an outdoorsman and was a member of the Greene County Fish and Game. Gary was a member of Be Hope Church in Beavercreek and loved providing the Halloween hayrides with his 1945 Allis-Chalmers tractor and wagon. Gary loved his family dearly and will be greatly missed by all.

Gary is survived by his wife Carolyn; son, Chris Carroll; daughter, Belinda (Clarke Weaver) Carroll; step-daughter, Christyn (Jason) Leach; two grandchildren, Nikki (Scott) Skelly and James Carroll; step grandchildren, Stephen (Sarah) Reigelsperger, Seth (Casey) Reigelsperger, Shayna (Ian) Stein and Shelby (Aaron) Spain; a great grandchild, Matthew Skelly; six step great grandchildren, Penelope, Neil, Ivan, Gregory, Carolyn and Eleanor; brothers, Mike (Annie) Carroll and Jeff (Patsy) Carroll; brothers-in-law: Bob (Patty) Shadowens, Bill (Faye) Shadowens, and Joe (Nelie Orozco) Shadowens; sisters-in-law: Leah Cruz, Anita Turner, and Jeanette (Dave) Casey; former spouse, Paula Carroll-Worman; and numerous other family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 24, 2021 from 9:00 to 11:00 am at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - Beavercreek Chapel, 3380 Dayton-Xenia Rd., Beavercreek, Ohio 45432. Funeral Services will follow the visitation at 11:00 am at the funeral home. Colonel Carroll will be laid to rest with full military honors following the services at Dayton National Cemetery.
