Gary Ray Calvert

March 6, 1937 — August 11, 2024

Gary Ray Calvert, aged 87, passed away on August 11, 2024, in Dayton, Ohio. Born on March 6, 1937, he was a cherished member of his community and a well-known radio personality for WHIO.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Marguerite Laughlin and Ceward Calvert; his beloved wife, Patricia (Sheehan) Calvert; and his brothers, Ron and John Calvert. He leaves behind a legacy of love, dedication, and laughter, survived by his children, James Calvert and Jennifer (Calvert) Kavouras. His memory will also be cherished by his numerous stepchildren: Anne Bowen, Beth Howard, Colleen (Curley) Warner, Jean D'Amico, John Curley, Karen House, Kevin Curley, Pat Curley, Paul Curley, and Tom Curley.

Gary was known for his sense of humor, his love of travel, always being the first to have the latest gadget, and his enjoyment of sports, especially baseball. Spontaneous cross-country road trips were a trademark of his, and he could talk about the Pirates and Reds for hours.

His voice, the one so many enjoyed on the radio, and the one his family and friends laughed along with while he was holding court at a family gathering or local restaurant, will be missed.

A private memorial service will be held on August 29 at Newcomer Funeral Home in Kettering, Ohio, followed by interment at Cavalry Cemetery.
