Gary Leon Boddie, 65, passed away on Monday, October 31st, 2022. One of 11 children, born May 13th, 1957, in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, to the late Thomas Sr. and Lillian Frances Boddie.
He was a lifelong resident of Jefferson Township. He attended Jefferson Senior High School and enlisted into the United States Navy where he was honorably discharged. He worked many years in the restaurant industry, from which he eventually retired. Gary was well known in the community and made friends wherever he went. He had a tough exterior, but also a kind soul – to know him was to love him.
He is preceded in death by his parents Thomas Sr. and Lillian Frances Boddie, brothers, Thomas Jr., Reginald, and Rickey Boddie, Sr., sister Carla Boddie.
He leaves to cherish his memory his only daughter, Melissa (Jerry) Gentry; grandson, Jairus Allen Gentry of Dayton, OH; 3 brothers, Terry (Joy) Boddie of Woodbridge, VA, Lee Sr. (Donita) Boddie of Milton, MA, and Tony Sr. (Angela) Boddie of Dayton, OH; 3 sisters, Kay (Will Sr.) Hill, Lynn (Michael) Beatty, and Sheila (Steve) Tucker, all of Columbus, OH; Sisters-in-law, Carla Boddie and Edith Jackson of Dayton, OH; special friend and mother of his daughter, Cooki Hathcock-Bland; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 12th, 2022, at Newcomer Funeral Home, 3940 Kettering Blvd., Kettering, OH 45439.
