Garry Pritchett
1950-2023
He Made A Difference
Garry, age 73, born June 20, 1950, first born to Peggy and Grady Pritchett in Dayton, Ohio, passed away on August 21, 2023.
Garry was baptized SDA at age 13. He graduated Roosevelt High School in 1968. Garry graduated from the University of Dayton with a BA in communication arts, with a minor in theater and history. During his College years at UD he was inducted into the KAPPA Alpha PSI Fraternity in 1970. He worked as an actor/director-musician in Ohio, New York, and Philly. He was a bass guitarist/singer with the Freelance Vandals in New York, and was awarded two gold medals in 1999 World Championships of Performing Arts in California. He taught students at Stivers School for the arts, and was a story teller, poet, and reader at Wright Dunbar House for years. Garry directed All Blood Runs Red at the Schuster Center. He was the lead actor in Driving Miss Daisy at the Patterson Homestead, Santa for the city of Dayton Winter Wonderland, Wright State-Theater, Dayton Playhouse, Old Farmstead Story Telling, the list is endless. Garry started as a teen with Theater West.
Garry was preceded in death by his father Grady, and his sister Debra. Mourning his passing are his beloved mother Peggy; loving sister Gerri Marshall; three nieces, Fragrance, Remika, and Mercedes; three great nieces, Kennedy, Lola, and Kendall; three great nephews Arnez, Deontay, and Demar – all dearly loved; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Memorial service will be held at 11 am on Friday, September 8th, 2023, at Newcomer Funeral Home in Kettering. Visitation will be held one hour prior at the funeral home.
Garry's service will be livestreamed at the scheduled service time.
