Garner Delano Barker Sr., a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on April 1, 2025, at the age of 90. Born on November 20, 1934, Garner lived a life marked by dedication, passion, and an abiding love for his family.
Garner had a distinguished career, retiring as a supervisor for GTE, where he was respected for his work ethic and leadership. Outside of his professional life, he was known for his adventurous spirit in his younger years, having driven sprint cars, showcasing his thrill-seeking personality. Garner had a deep connection with nature, finding joy in fishing and outdoor activities. He was also a competitive soul, often engaging in spirited card games with his family, where laughter and playful rivalry were never far behind.
He is survived by his children: Garner D. Barker Jr., David L. Barker, Glema McClung, Drema Glenn, and Melinda Robles; and wife, Jenny Barker. Garner was also a proud grandfather to a multitude of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, all of whom will carry forward his legacy of love and warmth. He is cherished by his siblings, Bo Barker and Glema Frye, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, family, and friends who were touched by his kindness and humor.
Garner is preceded in death by his first wife, Louella Barker, and his sister, Odessa Saunders. His memory will forever resonate in the hearts of those who were fortunate to know him. His life was a tapestry woven with love, laughter, and the joy of family, and he will be greatly missed.
