Gaile T. Kanak, born on March 20, 1945, in Dayton, Ohio, passed away on January 28, 2025 in Huber Heights, Ohio. He lived a life marked by dedication and service, embodying the values of hard work and reliability that defined him both personally and professionally.

With over 60 years of service to the Sheet Metal Workers Local 24 of Dayton, Gaile made significant contributions as a Union Steward on various job sites and as a Conductor Warden for the Local 24. He was a tried and true union man, respected by his peers for his unwavering commitment and support for fellow workers.

Gaile’s quiet and simple demeanor was balanced by his immense organizational skills. He was known for being exceptionally reliable, always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. His character touched many lives, and his presence will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his impressive career, Gaile served his country honorably in the U.S. Army from 1968 to 1970, where he worked as a welder at Fort Hood, Texas. His military service was an important chapter in his life, reflecting his loyalty and dedication.

Gaile enjoyed a variety of hobbies, with his favorite pastime being horseshoes. He cherished moments spent camping, fishing, and boating, particularly his 20 years enjoying Lake Life at St. Mary's Lake. His passion for outdoor adventures was complemented by his memberships in the American Legion Post 746 and VFW Post 6560, connecting him with others who shared his spirit of camaraderie.

He is survived by his beloved children, Gaile J. (Mary) Kanak, Dale T. Kanak, Jodi (Roy “T. Bone”) Stratton, and Jeff Davis; grandchildren Curtis, Maggie, Dillon, Jones, Emily, Abby, Eli, and Taylor; great-grandchildren Trevor, Eleanor, and Jane; and nephew Albert Jackson, Jr.

Gaile was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Lorraine Kanak; sisters Francis (Albert “Al”) Jackson and Bettye Kanak; brother Chuck Kanak; and nephews Steve Jackson and Chuck Jackson.

Visitation will be held on February 8, 2025, from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm, followed by a funeral service at 1:30 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home, North Dayton, 4104 Needmore Rd, Dayton, OH 45424. Gaile will be laid to rest at Dayton Memorial Park. 

Gaile T. Kanak's legacy of genuine kindness, commitment to family, and dedication to his work will forever remain in the hearts of those who were fortunate to know him. He has left us with enduring memories that we will cherish as we celebrate a life well-lived.
