Frederick U. Braaksma

Frederick Ulrick Braaksma, age 76, of Dayton passed away surrounded by his family on July 1, 2024. He was born in Djakarta, Indonesia on May 7, 1948 to the late Willem and Augustina Braaksma. In addition to his parents, Fred is preceded in death by his brother, James Braaksma.

Fred is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Diane; daughters, Angela (John) Conley, Jennifer (Randy) Perry, Michelle Braaksma; grandchildren, Amber (Nick) Saettel, Daniel Frederick (Ali) Puslat, John-John Conley, Kelsey Puslat, Randy (Abigail) Perry; great-grandchildren, Grayson Frederick Puslat, Evelynn Puslat, Sophia Puslat, Kennedy Saettel, Emmalynn Saettel, Wesley Perry and siblings, Anjes (Eric) Wilson, Judy Braaksma-Judy, Cherie (Vincent) Provenzano, Tony Braaksma, Roy Braaksma and Philip (Margrett) Braaksma; along with many other family and friends.

When Fred was young, he moved from Indonesia to Holland with his parents and siblings. He and his family arrived to the United States in 1956. As a teenager he was an avid soccer player, loved restoring cars and working out. Fred met his wife, Diane, when they were teenagers and spent 60 devoted years together. He was a loving husband, devoted father, grandfather, son, brother, mentor and "Affordable Freds". He was a hard worker and enjoyed taking care of his family throughout the years, especially devoted to his wife and daughters. Fred will be forever loved and greatly missed by all who knew him. Family finds comfort in knowing that he is now with the Lord and they will all be together again one day. 

Family would like to give a special thanks to the dialysis nurses at Dayton VA as well as the SICU nurses at the Cleveland VA.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 11, 2024 at Newcomer Kettering, 3940 Kettering Blvd. Service will begin at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 11 2024 at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 12, 2024 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 2300 S. Smithville Rd.
