Spencer, Fred, age 62, of Vandalia passed away on Monday, February 23, 2009. He was born December 2, 1946 in Hazard, Kentucky, the son of Reader & Polly Spencer. He served in the US Army and guarded the grave of President Kennedy. Fred was employed as the General Manager at the Vandalia Auto Clinic. He was a member of the Vandalia Nazarene Church. He is preceded in death by his father and 3 brother-in-laws, David Kemple, Arthur White, and Leo VanCampen. He is survived by his loving wife of 15 years, Betty Spencer; children, Brian (Lisa) Spencer of Las Vegas, NV, Amy (Kevin) Ballard of Newnan, GA, Bryan Halda of Miami, FL; grandchildren, Shane, Andrew, & Taylor Spencer and Eric & Isaac Ballard; mother, Polly Spencer; brothers and sisters, Georgia Kemple, Glenna White, Sheila VanCampen, Mark (Joy) Spencer, Linda (Allen) Swafford, Kenneth (Debbie) Spencer, Donald (Anna) Spencer, Daniel (Sandy) Spencer, and Joseph (Sherry) Spencer; special Buddy, Brandon (Tiffany) Swafford; brothers and sisters-in-law, Wayne (Pam) Hounshell, Brenda (Pete) Flanagan, Barbara (Howard) Gault, and Jerry (Lynn) Hounshell as well as many other nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 10 AM on Saturday, February 27, 2009 at Newcomer Funeral Home & Crematory, 4104 Needmore Rd, Dayton, Ohio with Rev. Michael Bean officiating. Interment will follow at Dayton Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 5-8 PM.
