Fred(Freddie)Rogers, age 85,of West Carrollton, passed away peacefully with his family by his side August 25,2008 at Hospice of Dayton. WWII veteran serving in the US Army as a medical aid man with the 78th Lightning division, 309th Infantry; where he won various metals including the European, African, Middle Eastern Campaign W/3 Bronze Stars; and survived the Battle of the Bulge. Member of the VFW post 3438 in West Carrollton. He enjoyed an active career retiring from Harrison Radiator after 33 years. After retirement he stayed busy doing odd jobs and enjoyed time with family and friends. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of West Carrollton. Survived by his loving wife of 65 years Louise & daughters Pat Lucas (Tim) Miamisburg, Vicki Meier (Bill) West Carrollton. 5 wonderful grandchildren, Todd Lucas (Sue) Columbus, Scott Lucas (Janine) Columbus, Mark Lucas (Kathy) West Carrollton, Melissa Bowman (Brian) Kettering, D'Aun Landis (Lonnie) West Carrollton. 11 great-grandchildren. 2 nieces Leona Cornelius (Dale) & family, Ruth Dodds (Ed) & family. 1 nephew Glen Rogers (Reva) & family, 4 sister-in-laws, Virginia Karas, Thelma Bayne, Judy Hager, Barbara Smith (Joe). Extended church family that have been so supportive & many special friends & family. His family wants him to be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, & wonderful friend to many. The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 28, 2008 from 5-8 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home Kettering Chapel (3940 Kettering Blvd., Kettering, OH 45439) where the funeral service will be held on Friday August 29, 2008 at 10:00 AM. Burial will be at Hillgrove Cemetery where the VFW post 3438 will perform military honors. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Hospice of Dayton.
