Fred J. Rex, Jr., age 82, a resident of Dayton since 1940, passed away unexpectedly on January 3, 2011. He was born in Martinsburg, WV, son of the late Fred and Katherine Rex.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Helen Rex; son and daughter-in-law: Tom and Susan; 3 grandchildren: Andrew, Natalie (Kyle) and Justin; 2 sisters: Peggy Medlar and Phyllis Pitchford; sister-in-law, Julie Neundorfer; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Fred was a veteran of the U.S. Navy; Boy Scout Leader of Troop 369; member of V.C.T. Gem City # 3; life member of the American Legion Post 613 and Shamrock Athletic Club; attended St. John United Church of Christ and retired in 1990 from United Color Press in Monroe, Ohio.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, January 8, 2011 at Newcomer Funeral Home & Crematory, 4104 Needmore Road, where the family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service, 9:30 – 10:30 am. Reverend Randall Brakemeyer officiating. Burial to follow at Forest Hills Memorial Gardens, Tipp City, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Fred's memory to The Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Avenue, Dayton, Ohio 45420.
