Frank G. Steyn, age 78, of Kettering passed away unexpectedly on Friday, November 9, 2018. Frank was born in Port Elizabeth, South Africa on October 4, 1940 to the late Pieter & Katherine Steyn. He was preceded in death by his oldest sister, Monica and oldest brother, Pieter. Frank is survived by his wife Jenny; children, Glen (Cindy) Steyn, Judy (JR) Tudor and Rita (Simon Stamper) Steyn; grandchildren, Carsten, Tara, Frank, Lydia and Ella; sisters, Mercia, Zelda, Peggye (Rob); Twin brother, Colin; many nieces, nephews, relatives and countless friends.
Frank lived a full and wonderfully rich life, and touched many hearts all over the world. He will be remembered for his religious scholarship, his desire to teach and reach those in need, and his everlasting love for his Saviour and church. We will likely never know the true extent of Frank's influence on others, and of course, we will never be able to fill that Frank shaped hole that has suddenly appeared in all of our lives, binding all of us together in grief. His passing was swift, and unexpected, but surrounded by the arms of love from all three of his children and his steadfast wife.
Frank met his wife Jenny at Helderberg College in South Africa, when he was a young man in the seminary, and they have been married for 52 years. Their family emigrated to the United States later in life, and have been building and growing the love for, and with, their extended family from all over the world since then. Frank blessed, baptized, married, and buried, countless church members and friends over the years. He was well known for his sarcastic wit and his irreverent humor, his love for nature and photography, and his special fondness for the sea.
In lieu of flowers, please think of donating in his name to the Chipembere Rhino Foundation (http://www.chipembere.org/donate/) or other nature fund. Frank and Jenny are known for their love of the natural world, and would love to see his legacy used to preserve and protect it.
We thank ALL the staff at Kettering Memorial Hospital for their care and effort in the last hours of his life.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, November 18, 2018 starting at 11 am at the Kettering Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 3939 Stonebridge Rd, Dayton, OH 45419. There will be a bereavement meal, likely with lots of Frank's favorite chocolate cake, following the service. The memorial service will be live-streamed all over the world for family and friends to join in on the celebration of his life. Details will be announced.
