Floyd W. Parr

Floyd (Red) William Parr, age 84, of Dayton, Ohio passed away on Tuesday, November 6, 2018 in Miami Township, Ohio. He was born in Dayton, Ohio on December 25, 1933. Floyd was the son of John and Lillian Parr (nee Ayers). He was married to Anna Reister on June 4, 1960 at Grace Methodist Church in Dayton, Ohio.

Floyd is survived by his loving wife, Anna Parr of Dayton; sons, Steven (Tara) Parr of Cincinnati and Mark (Nicole) Parr of Lafayette, LA; sister, Carolyn McCroskey of Raleigh, NC; 3 granddaughters, Lydia and Sydney Parr and Isabella Hundley; 1 grandson, Colin Parr and a host of other family members and friends. Floyd was preceded in death by his parents and sister Cora Mae "Corky" Hubler.

Floyd joined the US Army in 1955, where he was stationed in the Panama Canal zone as a tank commander, reaching the rank of Sergeant. Floyd was honorably discharged in 1958.

Floyd graduated from Ohio Northern in 1960, majoring in Political Science. It was while he was in school at Ohio Northern, in 1959, that due to his curious inability to type, he came across a young woman named Anna Reister from College Corner, Indiana, who offered to type a term paper for him. Later that year, Floyd came home to Dayton and asked that same young woman out on a date, and in June of the next year Floyd and Anna married.

After a stint in law school, Floyd worked several jobs before landing a position with NCR. It was during this period, in 1964, that his son, Steven Douglas Parr, was born. Three years later, in 1967, his son Mark William Parr was born. About a year later, Floyd received his MBA in 1968 from Xavier University.

Floyd worked for NCR for 10 years, before moving to Bergstrom Paper, where he worked about 2 years. In 1974, Floyd switched jobs to Champion International, and he and his family moved to Houston, TX. The Parr family lived in Houston about two years before Floyd took another position with Champion in Atlanta, GA,
where they lived for about half a year, before they moved back to Dayton in 1978.

Upon returning to Dayton, Floyd worked for Champion International at their Hamilton, OH office, commuting about 3 hours each day so his family could live close to their friends in West Carrollton. In 1985, Floyd took a position with the city of Springfield, OH, as an Assistant Purchasing Manager, where he worked for 13 years until he retired in 1998.

Floyd was a devoted family man, who could always be found at every wrestling match, football game, and school program his kids had. Floyd loved watching sports and anything related to sports. But his greatest love was for his wife. Floyd loved Anna dearly and with a devotion seldom seen. Anna was Floyd's world,
and he would do anything to make her happy and safe.

A visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, November 14, 2018, from 5:00 to 6:00pm at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, South Dayton Chapel, 3940 Kettering Blvd., Kettering, Ohio 45439. A memorial ceremony will immediately follow at the funeral home at 6:OOpm. Burial will take place November 15, 2018 at 11:OOam, at the College Corner Cemetery, Brookville Pike, West College Corner, IN 47010.

In lieu of flowers, the family is suggesting that contributions can be made in Floyd's name to the Hospice of the Miami Valley, 46 North Detroit Street, Suite B, Xenia, OH 45385.
