Ferdinand Claire Henken

Henken, Ferdinand Clarie "Ferd", born October 19, 1920 in Bridgewater, South Dakota, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 16, 2010 with his sons by his side. Ferd was valedictorian of Bridgewater High School, Class of 1938. A talented musician (trumpet), Ferd served his country with the 147th U.S. Army Field Artillery Band in New Guinea and Australia. Upon his return, he married his high school sweetheart: Mary (Hofer) Henken, and was happily married for 55 years. Mary passed away in 1999.

Ferd is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law: Tom & Laura Henken and John & Barb Henken; and grandson: Alex Henken. Ferd was a graduate of South Dakota State University, B.S. Mechanical Engineering and moved to Dayton for a job with Frigidaire, where he was an engineer for 23 years.

A service of remembrance will be held at 1:30 P.M. on Friday, October 22, 2010 at Sugar Creek Presbyterian Church, 4417 Bigger Road, Kettering with Pastor Julia Wharff Piermont officiating. A reception for family and friends will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Sugar Creek Presbyterian Church in memory of Ferd.
