Everett Ray "Chad" Chadrick

July 15, 1934 — September 7, 2020

Everett Ray "Chad" Chadrick, age 86, went to live in his heavenly mansion on September 7, 2020, after a 15-year fight with cancer. He was born the only child of the late Timothy Ray and Ottice Marie (Shively) of Dodson, Louisiana, on July 15, 1934. He graduated from Dodson High School and received his BA in Music Education from Louisiana Polytechnic University in September 1956. Starting on October 1, 1956 he served in the 661 Air Force Band at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base through January 12, 1957. He met the love of his life, Jeri McGuire Chadrick at First Baptist Church, Fairborn, OH, and was married there on Dec. 21, 1957. He then served in the USAFE 686 Air Force Band in Weisbaden, Germany, until he was honorably discharged from the AF in September 30, 1960.

Chad taught at M.D. Shannon Elementary school in Morgan City, Louisiana, from 1961 until January 1963. During this time he also served as Church Music Director at Berwick Baptist Church, Berwick, LA and then at Franklin Baptist Church in Franklin, LA. In January 1963, Chad was called to be the full-time Minister of Music and Education at East Dayton Baptist Church, Dayton, OH. He then taught at Centerville City Schools from 1966 through 1974. Chad continued his education by earning his Masters Degree in Curriculum and Supervision from Wright State University, He later taught at Dayton Christian Schools for the next 20 years.

Chad loved music and brought that love into his home and his classrooms. He entered his classrooms with determination to do his best and to do it with compassion and gusto. He was beloved by so many! Who could not take pleasure in this man with the Leprechaun twinkle in his eyes and such vigor in his greeting? When talking about his passions - his God, his wife and children, his music, his students - Chad's voice filled with such ardor that just listening to him made you glad to be alive. Chad served as a Deacon, Life Group leader, and played his clarinet in Dayton Avenue Baptist Church's orchestra and sang in their choir. He was also a piano tuner for over 60 years and continued this beloved activity even through the early stages of his illness.

Before his illness, Chad was involved in summer missions in Paris supporting our Southern Baptist missionaries with the Algerian Berber Christians. He also was on mission in Mississippi after the Katrina aftermath and helped build homes for orphans at the Hope Children's Home in Tampa, Florida with the Ohio Baptist Builders.

Chad is survived by his wife of almost 63 years, Jeri; four sons and 2 daughters, 23 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
