Evelyn Jean Nealeigh, age 88, of Dayton Ohio, previously of Greenville, Ohio passed away just shy of her 89th birthday after a long battle with dementia. She spent the end of her life with loving family.
Evelyn was born in Troy Ohio on May 25th, 1934, to William and Opal Marie (Houser) Durst. She graduated from Bethel schools in 1952 and later that year married William Eugene Nealeigh. Evelyn had 4 children, Steven, Keith, Kathy, and Rodney.
Evelyn spent 51 years as a 4-H advisor and in 2011 she was inducted into the 4-H hall of fame.
Evelyn also loved to play softball and volleyball. In her 50's she began playing with the Senior Olympics. Evelyn was inducted into the Softball Hall of Fame in 2014 and was a long standing member of the Softball Players Association. She played her last game in August of 2022.
Evelyn is preceded in death by her parents; son Steven Nealeigh; daugther in law Melanie Nealeigh; sister June; brothers Dan and Don; significant others William Stroud and Joe Jenkins and her ex-husband William Nealeigh.
Evelyn is survived by her daughter Kathy Nealeigh-Smith; sons Keith Nealeigh and Rodney (Christine) Nealeigh. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren as well as multiple nieces, nephews, friends and teammates.
Public visitation will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home (3940 S. Kettering Blvd. Kettering, Ohio 45439) on Tuesday May 23, 2023 at 11:30 am with funeral service to follow at 1:00 pm. She will be laid to rest at Maple Grove Cemetery, Port William, Ohio next to William Stroud.
