Evelyn Basham, age 92, of Xenia, OH, passed away on April 4, 2020, in Dayton, Ohio, following an illness. An avid reader, golfer, bowler, and traveller, Evelyn made friends everywhere she went. Her generous spirit and practical nature made her a trusted confidant and beloved member of many groups, associations, and even families. She is preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Kenneth L. Basham, her parents, six siblings and an infant son, Ronald Kenneth Basham.
Born in Horse Branch, Kentucky, the daughter of Ira Wade and Sadie Baize, Evelyn attended Business School in Louisville and then became a beloved school secretary in South Chicago Heights, IL for 33 years. She lived nearby in Crete, IL for the majority of her adult life, where she was a member of Deer Creek Christian Church, the Crete Women's Club, and numerous other community groups. After moving to Ohio, she became a member of the Xenia Senior Center and made cherished friends in her new community.
Evelyn is survived by her daughter, Julia Wagner, of Xenia, OH; granddaughter, Megan Jernigan, and great-granddaughter, Grace Jernigan, of Columbus, OH; and granddaughter, Marla (Tim) Starnes, and great-grandchildren, Holton, Kassia and Kohen Starnes, of Central Florida. She also leaves behind devoted nieces, nephews and extended family. She will be dearly missed by all.
Her cremains will be interred next to those of her husband in Beaver Dam, KY.
