Eugene Howard Decker, Jr.
age 51, of Augusta, GA, passed away on Thursday, April 17, 2008 at his home. He was born March 12, 1957 in Trenton, MI. He was a graduate of Miami East High School, Casstown, OH where he was listed among the Who's Who of High School Students. Gene attended the New Carlisle Church of God and Fairborn Church of God (now known as VictoryTemple) in his youth. He served in the US Navy for six years where he trained in the field of Nuclear Power. He was stationed on the USS Enterprise where he was instrumental in the conversion of the ship to a Nuclear Powered Aircraft Carrier. After his discharge from the Navy he worked another 18 years as a Nuclear Engineer at the Savannah River Nuclear Power Plant. He was also an entrepreneur of many business endeavors. Gene was preceded in death by his biological father, Eugene Howard Decker, Sr. and grandparents, John & Hattie Swangim. He is survived by his mother, Lila Fidler & dad, John Fidler of Dayton, OH; brother, John Steven Fidler of Troy, OH; sisters, Mrs. Terri (Clint) Stinson of Centerville, OH, Mrs. Nina Kathryn Pence of Trotwood, OH, Mrs. Cheryl Young of Dayton, OH, Mrs. Cynthia (James) Simpkins of Thicket, TX; nine nephews and nieces, aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends. Gene was a beloved son, brother, and family member who will be missed by all. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, April 23, 2008 at Newcomer Funeral Home & Crematory, 4104 Needmore Rd., Dayton, OH, with Bishop James Simpkins officiating. Interment will follow at New Carlisle Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 5-7 PM.
