Eugene "Gene" Darnell
June 21, 1925 — July 27, 2013
Eugene "Gene" Darnell, age 88 of Dayton, passed away on Saturday, July 27, 2013. He was born in Saltville, VA on June 21, 1925 the son of the late William and Rosie Darnell. He married Helen Hockett and she precedes him in death.
He is also preceded in death by his son, Ralph and brother Jay.
Gene is survived by his sons, Bill & Pam Darnell, Don & Vanessa Darnell and Ron & Susie Darnell; daughter-in-law, Mae Darnell; 12 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; 1 great great-grandchild; brother in-law and sister-in-law, Denny & Patsy; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Mike; numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.
He served in the Navy during WWII on the USS New Jersey. After coming home to Dayton, Gene worked as a diesel mechanic at Dayton Evan's until his retirement.
He is also preceded in death by his son, Ralph and brother Jay.
