Esther June Gillette, age 90 of Centerville, OH passed away Saturday, November 5, 2016 at St. Leonard under Hospice care. She was born March 15, 1926 in Walker Township, Michigan, the daughter of Ferdinand and Winifred Roth.
She is preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Mary Beth Gillette and sister, Jayne Faber.
Esther is survived by her husband of 62 years, Dale; daughters, Linda (Marlyn) Strickland, Cindy (Edward) Gau, Elizabeth (Robert) Newman; brother, F. Dale Roth, M.D.; and many loving grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Esther was the foundation of many family traditions and loved spending time with her family, especially the children.
Esther attended a one-room school, graduated from Union High School, and worked for Michigan National Bank and Hudsonville State Bank. She attended Grand Rapids Junior College and received her RN from Blodgett Memorial Hospital in 1954. After marrying Dale in 1954, they moved to Houston, TX where she worked at Jefferson Davis County and Hermann Hospitals. In Berkley, Michigan, she worked for a doctor's office. In New Jersey, she worked at Pascack Valley Hospital and a doctor's office. In 1974, they moved to Centerville, OH and she worked for Miami Valley Hospital and with a local cardiologist.
She is a member of Fairhaven Church, where she ran the blood bank, was involved in women's ministries, started the nursing home ministry, and sang in the choir. She loved to paint china, was a member of the Ohio State China Painter's Club, and taught china painting classes for her friends in her basement. She was an active member of the Red Hat Ladies.
She and Dale enjoyed traveling with the Kettering Sister Cities Group.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, November 13, 2016 at 4 pm at Fairhaven Church. Visitation will be from 3 pm until the time of service. Burial will be in Georgetown Township Cemetery in Michigan. In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to consider a donation to Hospice of Dayton OR Fairhaven Church.
