MURPHEY, Emilie (Emmy), age 80 of Fairborn, passed away Thursday, November 6, 2008 at Hospice of Dayton after a courageous battle against cancer. Born in Augsburg, Germany to Karl and Emilie Poth, Emmy was preceded in death by her loving husband of 42 years, Alan. Her memory will be cherished by her sister Erika Richardson of New Jersey, her sons Jeffrey and Philip, her daughter-in-law Shelly, and her two grandchildren, Nicholas and Rebecca. Emmy will be most remembered for her selflessness and compassion. Her calming personality and kind heart is reflected in the hundreds of handmade, patchwork quilts she painstakingly pieced together from small ordinary, indistinguishable pieces of cloth to achieve extraordinary vitality and beauty. The family extends special thanks to the staff at Hospice of Dayton for their care and compassion. Her illness never conquered her spirit, corroded her faith, or crippled her love. Services will be held Wednesday, November 12 at 9:30 a.m. at the Newcomer Funeral Home of Beavercreek. Interment will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the Dayton National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a contribution be made to Hospice of Dayton.
