Elvie Dennis Brown

February 9, 1924 — April 4, 2021

Elvie Dennis "Brownie" Brown, 97, of Dayton, passed away on Sunday, April 4, 2021 at Miami Valley Hospital of natural causes. He was born on February 9, 1924 to the late George Hubert and Julie (Bailey) Brown. On February 14, 1958, he married the former Leona Harris, who preceded him in death on July 7, 2016.

Brownie was truly loved and cherished by his remaining family, niece Michelle (Timothy) Cadle; grand-niece, Olivia Cadle; nephew, Ronnie (Susan) Lowrie; and numerous friends and family. He was preceded by brother, Doak Brown; sister, Ina Lambert; and beloved nephew, Jamie Dennis Lowrie.

Brownie was orphaned at the age of ten and struck out on his own working his way through Tennessee and Indiana on various farms. He was a sergeant in WWII and he was one of the brave souls who stormed the beaches of Normandy on D-Day. Brownie went on as part of the army regiment who liberated France. At the end of the war, he became part of the engineering crew who rebuilt the bridges throughout Germany.

Upon returning from WWII, he settled down in Dayton, Ohio where he met the love of his life Leona. Brownie and Leona were avid classic car enthusiasts and spent their spare time taking their 1965 Ford Thunderbird to car shows all over the Miami Valley area for years. He was an active member of the Dayton Area Thunderbird Club for many years.

Brownie was an avid bowler and continued to bowl up until the time of his death. He had many senior bowling friends who were very near and dear to his heart.

Brownie was also active with the local Real Roots radio station for many years. He was an on-air personality that often called into the morning radio show telling stories of his remarkable life and giving out his own brand of common sense.

He will truly be missed by his family and friends. Anyone who had the privilege to know him will forever be changed by this remarkable man. He truly made the world a better place for all those that knew and loved him.
