Elsie Viola Hulsey
December 2, 1921 — June 23, 2018
Elsie Viola Hulsey (Sherer), our beloved Mother, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother peacefully passed away on June 23, 2018, at the age of 96.
She was a native of Jasper, Alabama. During World War II, in Birmingham, Alabama, she would walk the top of B29 Bombers to look for bullet holes and missing rivets. She would then add rivets to the missing areas. She moved to Ohio after World War II to begin her career at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and Frigidaire.
On April 3rd, 1948 she married Clyde Hulsey and later became a proud, full time mother to two daughters, Donna her eldest and Carolyn the youngest.
Elsie was an accomplished woman during her later years in life as well. She was the leader and co-founder of the Xenia Senior Citizen Centers' music group the Stringbenders for 30 years in which she played several instruments; guitar, banjo and dulcimer to name a few. Additionally, she won Xenia Senior Citizen of the Year in 2012 for her work with the Stringbenders bringing joy and happiness to the community and especially the elderly.
She is preceded in death by her husband Clyde Hulsey, her parents Jessie and Clinton Sherer Sr., as well as her 6 siblings Jessie, Clinton Jr., Howard, Alfred, Charles and Fred.
She is survived by her daughters Donna (Rick Sisson, Jr.) Ritter of Xenia, OH, Carolyn (Ned) Nelson of Issaquah, WA; 4 grandchildren, Nick (Angie) Ritter of Waynesville, OH, Angie (Cole) Rogers of Springboro, OH, Elise (Charlie) Ironmonger of Greenville, NC, and Andrew Nelson of Issaquah, WA; and 4 great-grandchildren Alexa Ritter, Taylor Ritter, Darcy Rogers and Adele Ironmonger, and soon to arrive Iris Ironmonger; and other numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
A visitation and celebration of her life will be held on June 28, 2018 from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - Beavercreek Chapel, 3380 Dayton-Xenia Rd., Beavercreek, Ohio 45432. A Funeral Service will follow the visitation at 12:00 pm at the funeral home with burial to follow at Valley View Memory Gardens.
