Elmer Marian Sloan of Englewood, OH was born to Isaac Marian and Mattie Lee Sloan (Maiden Name: Mayis) on 18 Dec 1931 and passed this life 27 Oct 2018. A graduate of Paul Lawrence Dunbar High School, Elmer embarked on a career with the General Motors Corp, Delco Moraine Division in 1965 and retired approx. 2009. An avid Swing, Big Band, & Jazz musician, Elmer played Alto, Baritone, and Soprano Saxophones for The Modernaires, The Cliff Bailey Band, and The Pete Smith & Norris Tierney Big Band from the 1950s thru the early 2000s.
Elmer was preceded in death by his father and mother, only after 45 years of marriage to the love of his life, Ernestine; daughter Sharon Young, and his brother, Isaac. Elmer leaves to mourn his passing sister, Mattie Madison; son Gerald Ligon; grandsons Michael and Mark Robinson; grand daughter Michelle Robinson; cousin Rita Wyatt; Nieces Kim Allison, Kathryn Trammell, Shirley Madison, Marcia Johnson, and Teresa Hutchison; Nephew Robert Madison; Godson Bret Carter; close co-worker, friend, and sister in Christ Tee Showers, good neighbors and friends Wayne and Mary Freeman and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 2, 2018 from 9:30 am to 10:30 am. A funeral service will begin at 10:30 am. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery.
