Elmer Eugene "Gene" Evans, age 68 of Riverside, passed away October 23, 2017. He was born August 14, 1949 in Red Ash, VA to the late Elmer V. and Gladys E. Evans.
Gene is survived by his wife of 46 years, Lynn "Pinky" Evans; sons: Timothy John (Erica) Evans and Sean Michael (Faith) Evans; grandchildren: Kailin Renee, Ashley Michelle, Jessica Nicole and Jonathan David; brothers and sisters: James, Ruth Anna, David, Rosa, Jackie, Susan, Daniel and Donnie; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Gene was a veteran of the U.S. Army, Vietnam War and was a recipient of the Bronze Star. He was a graduate of Stebbins High School in 1967 and earned his Bachelor's Degree from Dayton Bible College. Gene worked in the Sign industry for more than 50 years. He was an avid fisherman, golfer, professional singer and loved sports. Gene was a member of Living Word Church and former member of Calvary Open Bible Church, where he was a children's church pastor.
A graveside service with military honors will be held on Thursday, October 26, 2017 at 1:30 pm at Dayton National Cemetery, 4400 West Third Street. This service will take place at Shelter Area A inside the cemetery. Use the Main Entrance to the cemetery off of Third Street and then follow signs around the outer edge of the cemetery to Shelter Area A. Everyone please meet and wait for the cemetery escort at the Stop Sign, please do not proceed to the shelter area on your own. The military honors portion of the service will begin promptly at 1:30 pm.
Visitation will be held from 10-11 am on Saturday, October 28, 2017 at Living Word Church, 926 East National Road, Vandalia, where a Celebration of Life Service will begin at 11:00 am.
