Elizabeth "Chris" Phillips, age 61 of Tipp City, OH passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday March 22, 2023 surrounded by her loving family. She was born on January 20, 1962 in Dayton, OH to Thomas and Elizabeth Schaaf.
Chris was a devoted wife, daughter, mother, and grandmother. She is survived by her loving husband of 37 years, Jack; her children, Jack A. (Heather); Tony (Kenzie); and Shannon (Matt) Kley; her grandchildren, Klaire, Jack, Stella, Jackson, Owen, Evelyn, Kenna, and Kamryn; her father, Thomas Schaaf (Marilyn Sutter); her brother, Bill Schaaf; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, family, friends, and her beloved dog, Gracie.
She is preceded in death by her grandparents, Russell and Glenna Schaaf; and Lawrence and Elizabeth Harmon; her mother, Elizabeth "Joan" Schaaf; and her brother, Steven Schaaf.
Chris graduated from Bethel High School, class of 1980. She was a majorette, cheerleader, and state-champion baton twirler for both Bethel and Miller's Blackhawks. She spent much of her life working with children, beginning at Faith Preschool in Huber Heights, OH where she was a teacher's aide and eventually became the school Director. She later returned to Bethel Local Schools where she took on many duties as a secretary and cheerleading coach, touching many lives and making many special friendships along the way. Together, she and her husband enjoyed listening to music, going to dinner, Florida vacations, and attending events and activities involving their family. More than anything, what she enjoyed most in her life was caring for and being a loving "Gammy" to her eight grandchildren. They were the light of her life. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Her family would like to especially thank Ashley, Jody, Jennifer, and Dr. Sabagh at the Premier Blood and Cancer Center; Lauren, Jackie, and Brandy at the MVHN Infusion Center; Dr. Pollack and team at the CNSI at Miami Valley Hospital; and the many caregivers and nurses from Day City Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Day City Hospice in Englewood, OH.
A visitation will be held on Friday, March 31, 2023 from 3:00pm to 5:00pm with a memorial service following, all at Newcomer Funeral Home – North Chapel, 4104 Needmore Rd., Dayton, OH 45424.
