Keferl, Elizabeth M. (McNamee)
88, passed away December 12, 2012 in Kettering, Ohio. Born in Philadelphia, PA to Charles and Elizabeth McNamee.
She is predeceased by her parents; brother, Bill and her husband of 52 years, Thomas J; and infant son, William C. She is survived by her sister, Mercedes Evitts; her six children: Gregory T. (Susan), Mary C, Therese M. Post; Jennifer A. Horvath (Dennis), Patrick J. and Matthew J. (Barbara); ten grandchildren: Ellie, Adam, Zachary, Erik, Todd, Chad, Brittany, Natalie, Nicholas and Bryan; three great grandchildren: Dominic, Kiefer and Abigail; and many other family and friends.
Elizabeth traveled to Dayton, Ohio in 1945, to become a registered nurse. She attended and successfully completed the Nurses Cadet Corp Training at St. Elizabeth Hospital in September 1948. Her nursing career spanned 54 years and included work at St. Elizabeth, Good Samaritan and Grandview hospitals. She also taught at the Dayton School of Practical Nursing, followed by a 15 year span as an intake nurse at the Montgomery County Juvenile Detention Center. Although Elizabeth retired from nursing in 2002, she continued her community service as a volunteer at Grandview Hospital. She found a way to live a full, balanced life, successfully raising six children, while using her Irish wit to overcome the urgent rigors of a hospital emergency room. Her compassion, determination and spirit lives inside everyone who knew her. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Grandview Foundation or Hospice of Dayton.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be said at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, December 17, 2012 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 310 Allen St., Dayton, Ohio. Interment will follow Mass at Calvary Cemetery in Kettering. The family will be receiving friends on Sunday afternoon from 1:00 – 4:00 P.M. at Newcomer Funeral Home – South Chapel, 3940 Kettering Blvd., Kettering.
