Elinor B. "Susie" Miles

Elinor B. "Susie" Miles, 97, of Beavercreek, passed away peacefully Saturday, February 1, 2025, at Hospice of Dayton. Born in Chesterhill, OH, the daughter of Clarence E. and Marion Seyler Bode, she was a 1945 graduate of Marion Rural High School. She graduated from Ohio University in Athens, OH with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education in 1950. In 1955, she married Homer O. Miles and settled in Bainbridge Township, OH, where they raised their two sons. Elinor taught classes at Chagrin Falls High School, OH, retiring in June 1983. She was a regular member of the United Methodist Church in Chagrin Falls and enjoyed hosting family and social gatherings. In 1985, Elinor and Homer moved to Green Valley, AZ, where they joined the Green Valley Presbyterian Church. In 2006, they moved back east to be closer to their older son's family in Hilton, New York. While there, she was an active member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church. Sometime after Homer's passing, she moved to Beavercreek, OH, to live with her younger son and his wife.

Susie loved collecting dolls and building detailed doll houses with her husband (including a miniature one of their house in Bainbridge Township). She enjoyed traveling, square dancing, water aerobics, and ceramics. Susie was an avid reader of fiction stories. She loved the challenge of the daily newspaper sudoku, putting together jigsaw puzzles, board games, and playing cards with friends. Susie enjoyed cooking for her family and cheering on the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Elinor was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her brothers; William (Janet) Bode, Green Valley AZ, Clarence Ernestine) Bode, Pittsfield, MA, and John (Bernice) Bode, Bainbridge Township OH. She is survived by her sons, Mark (Sherry) Miles of Hilton, NY and Gregory (Deborah) Miles of Beavercreek, OH; grandchildren, Abigail (Joseph) Baldwin, Ashley Miles (fiancé, James Guernieri), Jennifer (Matthew) Henrich, and Steven (Chelsie) Miles; and six beautiful great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 11:00am-12:00pm, on Friday, February 28, 2025, at Newcomer Funeral Home, 3380 Dayton-Xenia Rd., Beavercreek, where a Memorial Service to celebrate her life will begin at 12:00pm. Private interment will be at the Dayton National Cemetery with her husband (an Army Veteran). 

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association in Elinor's memory.
