Elder Tommy McGuffey, Sr. was born on January 27, 1958, in Middletown, Ohio to the late Deacon Will C. McGuffey and the late Bishop Lucy McGuffey.
As a child, Tommy started working as one of the delivery boys for the local paper route while also assisting his father in the trash truck business. One day Tommy and a couple of his friends went on to start an independent auto shop building go-carts, fixing mopeds, and even more advanced automobiles as time continued. Tommy had an infinity for sports throughout his childhood into his adulthood. He graduated from Middletown High School in 1976 and then enlisted in the United States Army, serving three years active duty, and concluding with three years in the reserve. In 1983, Tommy heard the voice of the Lord, accepted the call on his life, and he was Saved, Sanctified, and filled with the Holy Ghost.
On August 19, 1984, Tommy married the love his life, Olivia "Libby" in Dayton, Ohio where they started their life. Tommy served as a faithful member of the Isle of Patmos Holiness Tabernacle Church under the late Bishop McGuffey and the successor Pastor Tyrone McGuffey. He devoted many years as Sunday School Teacher and wise Elder. While balancing the numerous roles of Husband, Father, Friend, and Laborer; Tommy embarked on a journey to further his career and went back to school graduating from Sinclair Community College in 1999. Tommy dedicated over 10 years as a representative of the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union (UFCW), over 15 years on the Executive Management Team of Cub Foods, over 15 years with Rite Aid and Envision Pharmaceutical Services, and 10 years with the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation & Correction at DCI.
Tommy departed this life on Thursday, September 15, 2022. He is preceded in death by his parents, father-in-law, Deacon Eddie Lewis, brother, Clifton McGuffey, and sister-in-law, Deborah McGuffey. Tommy leaves to cherish his memory, his loving and devoted wife of 38 years, Olivia McGuffey; his two wonderful children, daughter, Diamond N.C. McGuffey, and son, Tommy J. McGuffey, Jr. He also leaves four sisters and three brothers: Ruth Ann Clemons, Catherine (James) Gaines, Lillian (Gary) Haley, Willie (Marlene) Lindsey, John Henry Lindsey, Margaret (Otis) Martin, and Tyrone McGuffey. He leaves one sister-in-law; Crystal McGuffey, three brother-in-laws; Jerome Brown, Lester Brown, Marvin (Angela) Lewis, two special friends; Joe Dancy and Randall Patterson and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 23, 2022 from 10:00 am until time of Home Going service at 11:00 am at Powerhouse of Faith Church, 500 Edison St. Dayton, OH 45402. Tommy will be laid to rest privately at Dayton National Cemetery.
