Stukenborg, Elberta Jean
Age 93, long-time resident of Beavercreek, passed away April 19, 2021. Elberta resided in Dayton and moved to Beavercreek where she went to school, graduated from Beavercreek High School, and raised her children. After she graduated and upon the encouragement and assistance of her step father Charles Stineman, she enrolled in nurses training through the Army Nurse Cadette Core of Good Samaritan Hospital. She graduated and married John Stukenborg from Coldwater, Ohio. They purchased their first home in Beavercreek and raised three children. Jean was a good neighbor, an excellent home-maker, and an asset to the community. She worked to help support her family at St. Elizabeths Hospital. Jean was a strong woman and survived many obstacles during her lifetime. She lived through and experienced the hardships of the Great Depression while living in Dayton Ohio; was exposed and contracted TB while in Nurses Training and was bed ridden for a year; she also was a cancer survivor not once but twice. She enjoyed sewing and cooking. Holidays were her specialty. Until her health declined into her eighties, she could be found baking pies, cookies and cupcakes late into the evenings in preparation for Christmas.
Preceded in death by her parents Edwin and Edith Herrold, and stepfather Charles Stineman; her sister, Fern; brother, Lloyd; and step-sisters, Fran and Delores Teague. She is survived by her three children and their spouses: Doug and Kay Stukenborg, Cathy and Rick Travers, Jill Jennewine and Tom Schamer, ex-husband Tim Jennewine. Grandchildren and their spouses, respectively: Matt Stukenborg, Kim (Stukenborg) and Nich Hughes, Jacob and Katie Travers, and Sarah Starr, ex-husband Lance Starr; and Trevor, Jordan, Justin and Brenton and Emily Jennewine; great grandchildren Annabelle Travers, Joshua, Marcus, and Daniel Starr.
The family would like to express their appreciation to all the friends and the family that visited, called and sent letters while Jean was in Assisted Living before going to be with the Lord.
The family would also like to acknowledge and thank Bethany Lutheran Village for their outstanding care of Mom while she was in their care.
A memorial service and a celebration of life will be held at St. Luke's Catholic Church on Monday April 26, 2021. Visitation from 9:30 am to 10:30 am and mass at 10:30 am by Fr. Terry. Interment will follow in Xenia at Valley View Memorial Gardens.
