Edwin S. Markiewicz, 84, passed away on Friday, July 21, 2017 in Dayton, OH after a short, courageous battle with cancer. Edwin was born on March 23, 1933 in Cleveland, OH to the late Stanley Markiewicz and Stephanie Brown.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Clara Markiewicz; children, Amy Carl, FL, David (Sherry), Dayton, Todd (Beth), Columbus, Steve (Cathy) Howard, Dayton, Debbie (David) Macy, NV, and Suzy Roderick, OK; 11 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren, as well as many special friends.
He served in the Korean War with the Navy Reserve. Ed was a graphic artist and co-owner of Sign Art. He also worked for NCR for some time. Ed believed in giving back to his community by donating his time and talents to charities throughout the Dayton area.
Ed loved his family above all else. He was a kind, patient husband and father. Quick with a smile, positive, energetic, and witty to everyone he met. His smile and love for life was contagious. He was an avid golfer and passionate about sports. He loved all things scarlet and gray and rooted with enthusiasm for his beloved Buckeyes. Ed also loved the Browns and the Reds (but not lately).
He loved to play cards with close friends and was a member and past President of the East Dayton Optimist Club. He also loved to cook and made a mean goulash.
Family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 25, 2017 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home & Crematory, 3940 Kettering Blvd., Kettering, Ohio 45439. Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Dayton in Edwin's honor.
