Edwin Candler

Edwin M. Candler, age 86 of Huber Heights, passed away August 3, 2014. He was born April 29, 1928 in Dayton to the late Edwin M. and Jessie Candler, Sr. In addition to his parents, Edd was preceded in death by his daughter, Pamela Jean Candler; brother, Russell Candler; and sister, Nelva Taylor.

Edd is survived by his wife of 25 years, Thelma Gex-Candler; son and daughter-in-law: Eric and Anita Candler of New Albany, OH; daughter and son-in-law: Cheryl and Darryl Alexander of Cary, NC; step-sons: Gilbert Gex of Los Angeles, CA and Stephen Gex of Dublin, OH; grandchildren: April, Evan, Drew, Ashley and Stephanie; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Edd was a veteran of the U.S. Army, Korean War. He earned his Bachelor's Degree from the University of Dayton, Master's Degree from Central Michigan University and his PhD from Kensington University. He retired after more than 35 years of service from WPAFB as a Supervisory Engineer. Edd was a member of Phillips Temple CME Church and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, August 7, 2014 at Dayton National Cemetery, 4100 West Third Street. James Washington, Pastor officiating. A procession will form at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4104 Needmore Road at 9:00 am. Contributions may be made in Edd's memory to either the Alzheimer's Association or VITAS Hospice.
