Edward F. Horner

December 13, 1943 — March 2, 2020

Edward F. "Skip" Horner, age 76 of Dayton, OH followed his beloved wife to heaven on Monday, March 2, 2020 at Hospice of Dayton. He was born on December 13, 1943 in Dayton, Ohio to Donald and Clamencia (del Socoro Valerin) Horner. Ed married Geneva Coldiron on September 7, 1968 in Dayton, OH.

Ed was a 1963 graduate of Wilbur Wright High School. He was a sheet metal worker in Dayton and surrounding areas to include most of the iconic buildings in Dayton. Ed was most proud of his work on many buildings within WPAFB, King's Island, and several GM factories. He was constantly pointing out to family and friends all the various places he left his mark on the industry. Ed had an undying loyalty to many organizations in his life to include the Moose Lodge, VFW, American Legions, Shamrock Athletic Club but most prominently AMVETS Posts 9, 33 and 24. Ed and Jenny could never be just a member at these organizations, they jumped right into administrative and officer roles, holding various state and national offices.

If you ever had the chance to sit and talk with Ed, you might have heard about his life before his daughters. Ed enjoyed motorcycle and car racing and raising a little hell with his friend Johnny Kyle. Once he met Jenny, he realized his life of questionable decisions and decided to settle down and start a family. Ed strived to give Jenny the castle she wanted, remodeling and adding additions to the home they bought. He enjoyed deer hunting with his friends, tinkering with cars and had a lawn mower repair shop. After having raised five daughters, he was able to maintain his sanity well enough to be the father his daughters and some of his grandchildren needed.

In October 2019, Ed began his battle with stage IV Gastrointestinal cancer that spread to his lung and bones. After learning surgery was not an option, and his attempt at chemotherapy was unsuccessful, he began his journey to reunite with the love of his life, Jenny. Ed was able to stay home, being cared for by his family and hospice staff, and constantly reminded everyone that Jenny was there with him.

Ed is survived by his three daughters, Carrie M. Keegan, Tammy L. (Thomas) Robison and Stacie L. Horner; two step daughters, Donna M. McKnight, Mildred A. (Otis) Daniels; 16 grandchildren, Robert, Missy, Jackie, J.J., Richard, Randall, Rebecca, Shandi, Eric, Bruce, Jen, William, Taylor, D.J., Talon and Austin; numerous great grandchildren; a sister, Linda Rafferty; and many beloved nieces, nephews, family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 51 years, Jenny; brothers, Joseph and Paul.

A Celebration of Ed's life will be held on Sunday March 8, 2020 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - Beavercreek Chapel, 3380 Dayton-Xenia Rd., Beavercreek, Ohio 45432. Memorial Services will follow at 4:00 pm at the funeral home.
