Thornhill, Edward Frank
Age 90 of Kettering, OH passed away on Monday, September 13, 2010 at Sterling House of Washington Township. He was preceded in death by his parents Harry N. and Evelyn M. (Scott) Thornhill, brothers Harry C. and Richard W., and his wife of 63 years Rosella I. Thornhill. He is survived by his daughter Beverly R. Reno (Douglas) and son Edward W. Thornhill (Roberta) both of Centerville, OH. "Poppy" was a devoted grandfather who leaves behind four grandchildren, Kelley Culley (Sean), Heather Evans (Sean), Laura Thornhill, and Jeffrey Thornhill. Ed proudly served in the U.S. Army during WWII where he was awarded three bronze stars and honorably discharged. Ed retired after thirty-four years service as a logistics specialist at the Air Force Logistics Command at WPAFB. Following his retirement from WPAFB, Ed worked several more years for Computer Sciences Corporation that included a year long assignment in Tehran, Iran. Ed was a very generous and loving husband, father, brother, and grandfather. He always had a smile and kind word to say. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, September 17th, 2010 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Funeral services will be held at 9:30 am on Saturday, September 18, 2010 at Newcomer Funeral Home (South Chapel) 3940 Kettering Blvd., Kettering, with Pastor Joe Redmond officiating. Burial to follow at David's Cemetery. The family expresses their sincere appreciation to the staff at Sterling House and Hospice who provided such excellent care. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of Dayton in memory of Ed.
