Edward Eugene Altendorf, age 87, of Centerville, passed away Monday, April 6, 2009. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Barbara Sue Miller; his parents, Alice & Christopher Altendorf; and his sister, Jean Scott. He is survived by Mary, his wife of 65 years; daughter Sharon Kay and husband Dr. Sam Rankin, of Huber Heights; grandchildren, Brenda and wife Pilar Rankin, of Palo Alto, CA, Sam and wife Vicky Rankin, of Phoenix, AZ, David and wife Tracy Rankin, of Dayton, Mary and husband Aaron Tucker, of Lincoln, NE, Mike and wife Jayne Miller, of Medina, Mark and wife Tracy Miller, of Kettering; great-grandchildren, Robert, Laura and Allen Rankin, Grace and Claire Rankin, Lyndsie Rankin, Marcella, Michayla, Alexander and Harrison Miller; brother-in-law, Robert and Ruth Copp, of Troy; sister-in-law, Beverly Copp; numerous nieces, nephews and friends. He attended Our Lady of Mercy Grade School and graduated from Patterson Coop High School. He was employed by Aero Products in Vandalia, designing propellers for planes. He then worked for Defense Electronics Supply Center as a draftsman until his retirement. He enjoyed bowling for numerous years and was a member of the Knights of Columbus for over 50 years; he served as an Honor Guard many times. Ed was a kind, generous and most gentle of men, who was loved so very much by those who knew him. He will be remembered by all who were honored to know him for his kind words and uncomplaining nature. He was a very "sweet" man. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, April 14, 2009, at 10 am at Holy Angels Catholic Church (1322 Brown Street, Dayton, OH 45409). The family will receive friends Monday, April 13, 2009 from 5-7 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home Kettering Chapel (3940 Kettering Blvd, Kettering, OH 45439). Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
