Edgell Maxie Salyer

Edgell Salyer, age 98, of Moraine, Ohio, passed away on March 14, 2024, followed by his wife of 72 years, Maxie Lee Salyer, age 91, on March 17, 2024. Edgell was born in Ashland, Kentucky on January 23, 1926 to the late Hoadley and Maude Salyer. Maxie was born in Stambaugh, Kentucky on October 26, 1932 to the late Glenn and Rosa McKenzie.

Edgell was a proud World War II veteran. He retired from General Motors after over 30 years of employment. He enjoyed tinkering and hunting. Maxie, homemaker, enjoyed having company and cooking for them. No person left her house empty handed. She collected bells and figurines. Maxie was always able to see the best in every person she met.

Edgell and Maxie are survived by their daughter Jill McCray; granddaughter Emma (Jacob Baird) McCray; sister-in-law Betty Salyer; lifelong friend and family by heart, Ora Allen; many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Edgell and Maxie are preceded in death by his two brothers, John P. Salyer and Brooksie Salyer; his two sisters Marie Witten nee Salyer and Pauline Preston nee Salyer; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Funeral service will be held at 4 PM on Thursday, March 21, 2024, at Newcomer Funeral Home, 820 Miamisburg-Centerville Rd, Dayton, Ohio 45459, officiated by Pastor Doug Surber. Visitation will begin one hour prior to service at the funeral home. Edgell and Maxie will be laid to rest at Lakeview Memorial Cemetery in Staffordsville, Kentucky on Saturday, March 23, 2024.
